Organizational and developmental psychology are two exciting fields of academia that are in high demand in the work place and also have practical application. Organizational psychology specifically is concerned with using scientifically-based psychological principles and research methods to study a variety of topics important to the understanding of human behavior in many different types of organizations. Developmental Psychologists, on the other hand, are more interested in systematic psychological changes, emotional changes, and perception changes that occur over a persons lifetime. Developmental psychology is interested in the examining such things as motor skills, psycho-physiological process and cognitive development as it would relate to problem solving, moral understanding, language development and self-identity.
Students interested in obtaining a Masters degree in Organizational/Developmental Psychology will be required to take courses related to the field of psychology in combination with business/managerial and educational type classes respectively. Typically Organizational Psychologists in the work place will be find jobs related to human resources, employee training and as productivity experts. Developmental Psychologist will often find work in the related fields of educational psychology, child psychopathology, and forensics developmental psychology just to name a few. Typically this type of Masters degree can take 3 to 5 years to complete.
